Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I know if I need professional help with my computer?
Try our Tips and Troubleshooting recommendations first. If you can’t resolve the issue with your computer quickly and easily, Contact Us. Ignoring the issue, trying to fix it yourself, getting a friend to help (no matter how knowledgeable,) or cutting corners with inexperienced technicians can quickly lead to bigger problems, extended downtime, and more costly repairs.

  2. Are there things I can check myself before calling you?
Yes, there are several easy solutions to common problems. You can
    • empty out your temporary files
    • go to the Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel and remove anything loaded that you no longer use

See Tips and Troubleshooting for more do-it-yourself suggestions.

  3. How do I know if I am protected against viruses and hackers?
If you are connected to the Internet, you are never totally protected from someone who wants to do harm to your computer or your data. To be as safe as possible, you should have the following at a minimum:
    • an Internet security suite or program (e.g., Norton Internet Security or McAfee Security Suite)
    • a proactive spyware prevention program (e.g., Webroot Spysweeper)
    • a router with a built-in firewall
    • a wireless network with encryption and the broadcast of your SSID turned off

  4. Can I trust you with my personal information?
Yes. We have been in this business for many years and are security experts. We respect your privacy above all; therefore, we share no information about you or your computer usage with anyone. Your passwords are safe with us.  You can always change passwords if you have concerns about sharing them. If, however, we find something on your computer that indicates that your children are visiting questionable sites or communicating with others that they shouldn’t, we will inform you before we leave your home or business. In addition, we will show you the evidence (if you wish) and tell you how to protect against this risky behavior.

  5. Once I call you, how quickly can I expect a visit from your technician?
Typically, we can schedule an appointment within 48 hours of your call. If your request is urgent, or if you are a regular client, we will attempt to reschedule other appointments to accommodate you.

  6. How long does a typical checkup and diagnostic appointment take?
The first time we visit you, you can expect that the basic checkup and cleanup will take at least an hour. This depends in part on how many users there are on any given computer, and how many computers you have. Our experience is that the vast majority of appointments take a minimum of two hours.

  7. I want to have all of the computers in my house connected so I can work from any location. Can you help me with that?
Networking is one of our specialties. Many homes and most businesses have multiple computers that need to share the Internet, printers, a backup device, and often some data. You may want to download information in one room and then use the same files in another part of the house where you have a different computer. We can set you up with broadband access and security, and link up all your computers with wired and/or wireless connections.

  8. What steps can I take to make sure my children are Internet-safe?
There are several good parental control programs on the market. Earthlink, AOL, and other service providers have free protection available if you subscribe to their service. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not provide this as a standard feature, Symantec (Norton) has one that is useful, as do other vendors. Once we find out how you want to protect your children, we will make recommendations on how to make their computer environment as safe as possible. We are happy to configure the software available from your ISP, or install and configure other software that you choose.

  9. What payment arrangements are available?
We prefer personal or business account checks. If you have a PayPal account, however, you can pay with a credit card. There is a slight surcharge for that service.

  10. What kind of guarantee do you offer on your work?
We warranty our work for 30 days. If something that we installed is not working properly or has interfered with the operation of something already on your computer and resulted in a problem, we will fix it at no additional charge. Our goal is for you to be so satisfied with your service that you will recommend us to your friends and business acquaintances.

Windows Tip

Windows 7 release is right around the corner.  There is a tool available from Microsoft that will evaluate your current system(s) to determine whether or not each PC will run Windows 7 properly.  It identifies each specific area of the computer (hardware and software) and tells you specifically what needs to be done to bring it up to Windows 7’s requirements.  Click here to download the Windows 7 Advisor.
